Dr. Laurence Conrad “Larry” Mansbach
Dr. Laurence Conrad “Larry” Mansbach, beloved father, grandfather and pediatrician, took his final bow surrounded by friends and family on October 28, 2018 at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
He was 82 years old.
Larry was born on February 26, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to Milton and Florence Mansbach. He attended Cornell University as an undergraduate and went on to earn his medical degree from New York Medical College. Next it was on to Yale University for pediatrics followed by several years overseas in France and Germany as pediatrician for the United States Army. In 1969, Larry moved to Santa Barbara with his wife Judy and children, Jennifer and Michael, where he joined the Santa Barbara Medical Foundation Clinic Department of Pediatrics.
As a pediatrician for decades in Santa Barbara, Larry loved taking care of children, their children and even their children’s children. It made his day when someone would come up to him and ask “Dr. Mansbach, do you remember me?” or tell him about something he did that changed their life even when he was travelling far from home.
His true passion was theatre, especially musical theatre. Larry spent years on stage in Santa Barbara in a wide variety of roles and is probably best known for his recurring role as Mother Ginger in the annual holiday performance of The Nutcracker.
Larry is survived by his daughter Jennifer, his son Michael, (wife-Jennifer) his brothers Peter and Richard, grandchildren Jeffrey, Ashley, Tyler, Jacob and Joseph, and his former wives Judy and Joan. He also leaves behind his devoted and much-loved cat Lancelot.
Please join us for a celebration of Larry’s life to be held on November 23 rd at 2:30 PM in the Main Lounge at the Vista del Monte Retirement Community – 3775 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara. In lieu of flowers, Larry’s family has asked that donations be made in his name to his grandson’s Join Jacob campaign for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County:
