Jesse “J” Fierros
Jesse “J” Fierros born in Delano, CA, on October 14, 1943, the third of five children. He passed away in utter peace surrounded by his family at his home on October 15, the day after his 75th birthday.
Brought up from Los Angeles as a premier hairstylist by Robinsons Department stores, his life was devoted to the care and beauty of women via his hairstyling talent. His genuine connection to people was far more than his profession, as he cared deeply about people and followed his clientele and their families as well as friends throughout the ups and downs of their lives.
Owner of Caritas Salon in 1970s and 80s, he transitioned to Heads Above the Rest, Ibiza and finally Headlines & Co. among other salons. His devoted clientele often moved with him. Some he cared for after they were no longer able to come to him, and at times he would even coif them at home, such was his devotion.
A Sai Baba devotee and spiritual and asana student, J became a yoga teacher in the lineage of Krishnamacharya, whose student Indra Devi brought yoga to America and taught J’s own longtime spiritual and yoga teacher, the late Helene Vreeland. J travelled to India multiple times and lived a peaceful and exemplary life full of laughter and touching many lives with his enduring spirit.
He is survived by his sister, Esther Fierros Tegio (Papa) of Modesto, CA; brother Alex Fierros (Alice) of Oakley, CA; sister, Molly Navarro-Skinner (Bob) of Redding, CA; little brother, Carlos Lin Fierros (Betty) of Modesto, CA; and beloved nephew Chris Navarro (Nayeli) of Los Angeles. He also leaves his beloved little fur baby, Kai Fierros.
A Santa Barbara celebration of J’s life will be held at Headlines & Co. hair salon at 25 W Mission Street on Sunday October 27, 11a.m. -1 p.m. All are welcome.
In accordance with Jesse’s wishes, a family memorial will be held in Delano where his ashes, together with the ashes of his fur family, will be interred with his father, Alejandro Fierros.
