Date of Death

April 26, 2020

Our beloved father went to be with his Lord Jesus on a beautiful Sunday morning, April 26, 2020.
He was born to Alphonso and Juanita (Cordero) Ruiz in Santa Barbara, 1929. He graduated from Santa Barbara High School a proud Don in 1947.

Known as an athlete in football and in baseball, he was recruited by the Dodgers in 1947, but decided to stay in Santa Barbara and marry the beautiful Patricia Moody and make his home here for their six children.

In 1968, he was devastated by the death of Patricia at the young age of 39. Two daughters were married. Alphonso, worked hard to care and raise his four children still at home.

Two years later Alphonso fell in love with Beverly Brown and the two married, bringing another daughter to the family. Alphonso and Beverly loved to go fishing, traveling in their motor home, and visiting casinos on their travels. They both loved their Church which became their second family.

Alphonso was loved by so many dear friends and respected in the Church. He was quick to make friends wherever he went.

He was recognized for his high school athleticism on April 27,2008, when he was inducted into the Santa Barbara “Ye Ole’ Gang”, and then on April 26, 2017, when he was inducted into the Santa Barbara Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was a devoted husband and father. He loved to dance, sing, and was always quick with a smile and laughter. Alphonso had a sharp mind as he had 7 children, 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Remarkably, he could name each one and bragged about all of them.

His last words were, “I love you all”. He is survived by children, Alana (Mark), Sherry, Alan, Jerilyn, Stephanie, Darci (Scott), Patty (Mike), and all of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed by all
