Darrell Bernard Tate
Darrell Tate of Santa Barbara passed away on October 19th, 2020 at the age of 84.
Darrell was born in Pittsburgh and raised there and in Corvallis, Oregon. As a senior in high school he moved to San Diego, where he met his wife Arlene, had their first child together, and attended San Diego State University. He graduated from SDSU in 1963, and witnessed President Kennedy speak at his graduation.
Darrell then took a job with GE Tempo and moved to Santa Barbara that same year, where he and Arlene had their second child. Later, he ran his own consultancy before working for the County and for Raytheon, from which he retired in 1995.
He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, golfing, or taking daily walks with his dogs Daisy and Alicia at Elings Park. He was also an avid hobbyist, and spent much of his time woodworking and building models, including 58 airplanes that lined the walls of his home office. He attended Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church, and was involved in various church ministries throughout his life.
He had an unmistakable presence, and his stubbornness and sense of humor will be missed dearly by those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, daughters Charlene and Marcene, and grandchildren Charles and Katherine. He was predeceased by his brother, Lee.
