Dorothy Godfrey Hill
Dorothy Godfrey Hill, age 89, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family November 25, 2020. For the last three years of her life she struggled valiantly with Parkinson’s, dancing in her wheelchair at her youngest grandchild Jamie’s wedding the summer of 2019.
Dorothy was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Earl and Flora Godfrey, is predeceased by her husband Bruce, by her siblings Alice and June, and survived by her youngest sibling Earl who was in Santa Maria to visit her only two weeks before she passed.
She is deeply missed by her children, Desmond and Dorothy McIntosh of Santa Barbara, Judge Brian and Jeanie Hill of Santa Barbara, Holly and Larry Raedel of Olympia, Washington, Jon Reis, Tami Majewski with whom she lived in Santa Maria until her death, and also by her grandchildren Rebecca, Noel, Adam, Heidi, Scott, Michael, Brandt, Alexandra, Misti, Katlin, Jamie and her great-grandchildren, Dean, Ingrid, Beau, Harley, Laine, Brody, Reid, Mira, Colt, Hank, Sawyer, Lincoln and Otto.
Dorothy was passionate about her family. For a decade after moving to Santa Maria in 1958 the family traveled by car back to Massachusetts and Vermont where they had a lake cabin full of relatives all summer. Dorothy and Bruce loved to entertain and always had an open door, several times sharing their home for extended periods with friends or family in transition. She loved dogs, babies and children, the sunshine, dancing and making and sharing good food. It would please her if donations were made in her name to the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
