Jessie P Monk

Jessie P Monk, 90, of Ventura, CA passed away on December 31, 2020.  Jessie was born in Fifeshire, Scotland April 18, 1930 to John and Mary Murray.  She left there at the age 20 to enlist in the Royal Air Force and served two years in England.  It was there she met and married her husband, Ray, who specialized in aerial photography.  They had two children, a boy, and a girl before immigrating to the United States to live in Santa Barbara in 1961.  In 1964 another daughter was born.

She worked nine years for Santa Barbara Coastal Lemon Company, then 20 years for Santa Barbara Research Center in Goleta before retiring.  She lived in Santa Barbara forty years then moved to Ventura in 2002.  She loved square dancing, dress making and playing piano.  Later, she and Ray lovingly cared for the city rose gardens in Santa Barbara and Ventura.  She also loved knitting afghans and hundreds of baby blankets for family, friends, and children in crisis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years, sister, and 14-day old daughter.  She will be missed and is survived by brother Stanley (Kathleen) of Scotland, son Douglas Monk, daughter Carole Trainer (Kevin), daughter Sharon Clack (Tim), three grandsons Ryan Tanner (Katrina), Timothy Clack, William Clack, and great granddaughter Charlotte Tanner.

At her request no services will take place. In her memory, donations may be made to Foodshare – Ventura County.
