Silas Jackson, Sr.

Date of Birth

October 9, 1925

Silas Jackson, Sr. was born October 9, 1925 to the late Whittie & Louise Jackson in Shreveport, Louisiana where he attended school.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.  When he was discharged he traveled to Santa Barbara, California to be with his family who had relocated there.

Silas married his sweetheart Timmoxena Geneva Byrd in 1947 in Santa Barbara, California.  To this union was born three sons, Silas Jackson, Jr., Gregory Jackson and Anthony (Tony) Jackson.

Silas was the sweetest and most loving person you could meet.  He was very quiet and always respectful.  Anyone who knew him well will remember him for his whistling.  Whenever he was comfortably relaxed he would whistle the same little tune that no one knew but him.  He loved sports and his favorite teams were the Dodgers and of course his very favorite the Lakers.  Silas worked for Thomas I. Peterson car dealership and then for the Gordon A. McDonald Corporation for several years before retiring from MTD after working there for 18 years.

Silas accepted Christ at an early age.  In the 80’s he became a Deacon at the Second Baptist Church of Santa Barbara, California.  He was a faithful member and held several other positions in the church until his health began to fail.

After Silas’ health began to fail he became a resident of Buena Vista Care Center until he was called home to be with the Lord.

Silas was preceded in death by his two sisters Carrie Johnson and Delia Gilbert, and three brothers Fred Jackson, Maceo Jackson and William Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Timmoxena, his sons, Silas Jr. (Diana), Gregory (Oksu), and Tony, Grandchildren, Shawn, Cassandra, Vanessa, Jafari, Alya, Kwame and Kofi, Great-Grandchildren Taylor, Tamara, Daniel, Emica, Jaylen, Avery, Tuli, Sadie, Silas, Kayman and Kruz.  Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Silas was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend!  He will be missed and forever be in our hearts.

Services for Silas will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel, 450 Ward Drive, Santa Barbara, California 93111.  We ask that everyone please wear masks.
