James Milton Manning

James Milton Manning, age 83, died peacefully at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA with his family by his side. Known to family and friends as Milton, he was born August 17, 1938 to Newman and Elvera Manning in Coalinga, CA. The family moved to Ventura County where his father worked as a ranch foreman. Milton had many fond memories of growing up on the ranch with his brother Floyd.

Milton graduated from Oxnard High School in 1956, Ventura College in 1958 and attended Cal State Long Beach. He worked as a Prototype Machinist in the aerospace industry for several companies in Ventura County, including Raytheon at Point Mugu. Milton married Mary Jean Schmitt in 1962 and they relocated to Goleta in 1966 when he accepted a position at Raytheon. In 1973 Milton went to work for Burroughs in Goleta as a Manufacturing Engineer and later at Delco as a Mechanical Engineer, from 1981 until his retirement in 1995. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his family.

Milton is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; daughters Laura and Susan; in-laws Lois Manning, Shirley Schmitt, Donna Schmitt (Bob Liner); nieces Michele Mueller (Pete), Tammy Paxton (Fred); and nephews Craig Manning, Eric Schmitt, Rob and Randy Vreeland
