It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that our beloved member and board member Cherie Welsh passed away on March 18, 2022.

Cherie has been not only a member of SBHRA for well over 20+ years, but also a longtime board member most recently serving the SBHRA Board as Volunteer Coordinator and Co-Chairing the Membership Committee.  Cherie was also very active and dedicated to helping other committees and new members into our association.

Holiday time was very special to Cherie.  She was always eager to participate in planning and decorating for our holiday events.  She would devote many hours to crafting and creating the centerpieces so many have enjoyed, often the creations came from ideas she designed with the Holiday committee.

Cherie was an experienced HR Manager (although she would say she started out as an accidental HR Manager, many can say the same).  She had a great and varied career in hi-tech, oil, medical clinic, botanical garden and most recently had worked at The Santa Barbara Center for Performing Arts and The Granada Theatre.

One of the pure joys for Cherie was when she went on a two year sabbatical to Ireland just a few years ago.  This was a highlight in her life where she had the opportunity to experience and immerse herself in a different culture while sharing the gift of religion that had taken her there.  She felt truly blessed for the opportunity and experience.  Many that knew were able to share the experience through the blog that she maintained during that time.

Cherie was an accomplished pianist and has belonged to choral groups with her church  As well she was very gifted when it came to crafting, scrapbooking and just about anything creative.  If you were ever the recipient of one of Cherie’s had crafted cards, you likely still treasure it.

There are so many things about Cherie that will be missed, her genuine kindness, willingness to help and share, her great smile, her creativity and knowing her!

SBHRA will plan a celebration of Cherie’s life on May 4 at Benchmark Eatery at 5:30pm.  We hope you will come and share stories and remembrances of Cherie.

Cherie’s family has a planned Celebration of Life on June 5 (Cherie’s birthday) at 3pm at Calvary Chapel of Santa Barbara located at 1 N Calle Cesar Chavez, #21, Santa Barbara, CA  93103
