Evan Franken
Evan Franken, 70, of Carpinteria,CA passed away peacefully on April 18 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Evan grew up in Sioux Center, IA, attended college at South Dakota State on a basketball scholarship, and lived in Steamboat Springs, CO spending nights working and days skiing before moving to Carpinteria in 1980 with his first wife, Ronda. There, they raised two children: Cara and Ross. He taught his kids how to shoot a jumpshot, hit a baseball, catch a wave body surfing, clean and cook a halibut and so much more. Evan worked for Global Marine on the oil rigs offshore Carpinteria then as an electrician and finally as an electrical contractor spending most of his time working at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and fishing, playing and watching basketball (go, Lakers!), skiing, tennis and golf. After Ronda passed away, he met and eventually married Christianne Carpenter, and together they enjoyed travel to Palm Springs, Hawaii and Mexico. Evan will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Evan was preceded in death by his first wife, Ronda, parents Everett and Nelvina, brother Greg and is survived by his second wife Christianne, daughter Cara, son Ross, grandsons Everett and Lucas and sisters Yvonne and Ramona. Evan requested a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. Evan’s loved ones celebrated his life at Lions Park in Carpinteria on Monday May 2. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the Carpinteria Boys and Girls Club.
