In Loving Memory of Virginia Ellia Ybarra Sanchez

Virginia passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her devoted family. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she moved to Santa Barbara, California, at 15 and made it her lifelong home.

Though California became home, Virginia took great pride in her Texas roots. She was a lifelong supporter of all things Texas and remained closely connected with family and friends still living there, keeping in touch with loved ones well into her final weeks.

Virginia lived a full, meaningful life centered on faith, family, and love. She cared deeply for others and was a constant source of comfort, strength, and encouragement. Her home was always open to anyone in need of a meal, a conversation, or a place to rest.

She was the proud mother of Tina Gutierrez-Grubbs (Lloyd Grubbs), George Gutierrez, Frank Gutierrez (Chris Mendoza), and Leticia Sanchez. She is now reunited with her beloved son, John Gutierrez, who preceded her in death. She was the cherished grandmother of eleven, great-grandmother of seven, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Many knew her affectionately as Grandma Virg, a name that captured the heart of who she was. She offered love, guidance, and acceptance to all who came into her life.

Virginia loved sharing stories from her childhood and a life marked by resilience and heart. She adored animals, gardening, and being surrounded by family. The color red was her favorite and brought her joy. It was often found in her wardrobe and throughout her home, where it appeared bold, vibrant, and full of life, just like she was.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Virginia found strength and guidance in her spirituality. Her home was filled with faith, laughter, and memories that will be cherished for generations. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, gentle humor, open heart, and deep devotion to her family and community. Her memory lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
