Walter John Golis
Walter John Golis, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to Walter John Golis and Helen Minnie Golis (Duffy).
Walter proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
Walter met the love of his life, Evelyn Mary Brockmann, in July 1958 at Eastover, a family resort in Lenox, Massachusetts. Their connection was immediate, and they were married the following year on June 14, 1959, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
The couple made their home in New York, where Walter worked as a door-to-door salesman. In July 1973, they relocated to Santa Barbara, California, where Walter built a successful career in real estate beginning in 1975. He later specialized in mobile home park sales and became well respected in his field.
Walter had a lifelong passion for handball, a sport he began playing in New York and continued to enjoy well into his 80s. His dedication to the game reflected his energy, discipline, and love of staying active.
Above all else, Walter loved his family and spending time together. He was a wonderful family man and a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren. He loved being by the ocean and many days could be seen driving with the top down in his convertible cruising up and down State Street and along the ocean. He loved going out to lunch, loved sitting by the pool spending time with family and friends , listening to music and embracing the simple pleasures of life. He was a sweet, kind, and gentle soul who touched the lives of many.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Mary Golis; his children, Steven John Golis, Glenn Thomas Golis, and Jill Patricia Barker (married to Rick Barker); and his cherished grandchildren, Brianna Nicole Barker, Logan John Barker, and Serena Grace Golis.
Walter will be remembered for his loving nature, and the lasting relationships he built throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
