Mary Rose Garcia
Mary Rose Garcia (Pippin), a lifelong Santa Barbara local, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 24th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many memories she created over a vibrant and joyful life.
Born in Santa Barbara, Mary Rose was the second daughter to Emery and Grace Pippin. She grew up just across the street from Santa Barbara High School, where her deep roots in the community began and where many of her lifelong friendships were formed. She later met the love of her life, Cruz Garcia, beginning a partnership defined by devotion, laughter, and a shared love of music, dancing, and travel. Wherever there was a live band, Cruz and Mary could be found side by side on the dance floor—true partners in every sense.
Mary Rose was a woman of warmth, style, and spirit. She was known for her fun, floral, and sparkly outfits, layered jewelry, her signature voluminous perm, and her ability to make any gathering feel special. She especially loved celebrating holidays, going above and beyond with thoughtful décor, festive meals, and memorable desserts that brought her family together year after year. Above all, she loved to laugh and brought lightness and joy to those around her.
Her love of travel and culture took her on cruises often returning to Mexico. She had a particular love for Mexican and Asian art and design—collecting colorful pieces such as Mexican sun faces, silk paintings, Buddhas, lucky cats, and elephants (which were often gifted from her oldest and dearest friend, Alicia) that reflected her eye for beauty and her joyful spirit. She also cherished time spent with her family on warm getaways, especially in Palm Springs and Hawaii.
Mary Rose is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Cruz Garcia; her children, Mark Garcia (wife, Dorene), Lesli Lagerberg, and Craig Garcia; her five grandchildren, Eric and Dana Lagerberg, and Kari, Kristina, and Holly Garcia; as well as her great-grandson, Malakai, all of whom will carry forward her spirit, humor, and love.
She was deeply loved and appreciated, and her family and friends are grateful for the countless memories she leaves behind. They take comfort in knowing her spirit lives on in peace and in the hearts of all who loved her. Mary Rose will never be forgotten.
