Odette Hockin
Odette Stapp Hockin, 94, of Santa Barbara, California, passed peacefully on May 16, 2026, at Serenity House. She was born on July 29, 1931, in Evergreen, Alabama.
Odette relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area early in life, where she built a distinguished career as an executive secretary and administrator. She worked at the University of California, Berkeley, the Trixler Brokerage Company, and the San Mateo County Community College District. She was widely respected for her professionalism, precision, and strong work ethic.
She later moved to Santa Barbara where she spent many fulfilling years. During her time in the community, she had many friends and was involved in the Mission Canyon Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and was a former member of the Santa Barbara Women’s Club and the Montecito/Hope Ranch Republican Women’s Club. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Odette resided in Samarkand for over 20 years, where she formed many lasting friendships and enjoyed a rich and active life.
Known for her gentle and kind spirit, Odette brought calm, strength, and warmth to all who knew her. She had a keen interest in the stock market and followed it with great enthusiasm and attention to detail.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Reynolds Giles, her sisters, Celia Agnew and Martha Bruss and her niece Margaret Trautman.
Odette is survived by her loving nieces and nephew: Kitty Parente (Stephen), Celia Hardy, Carolyn Paige Petlow (Andrew), David Agnew, Beth Loveseth (Ian), Mary Sibley (Travis) and Kris Bugbee.
