Bernard Acquistapace

City of Death

Santa Barbara

I once heard someone say:

“It’s what you lose in life that makes what you find more meaningful.”
With the loss of my mother, who was my best friend, life seemed without meaning. My cousin, Bernard Acquistapace, helped me change that mindset. I found a true friend in Bernard and slowly through that friendship with him, I found purpose in my life once again.

During our many Sunday morning phone visits he would always find some humor or wisdom to soothe over whatever life threw at you. On top of that, he took me out to dinners and he would always say, “It’s my treat; don’t look at the prices.” Boy, that lead to choosing a filet mignon steak; yummy, yummy. A generous man he was.
Raised in the Santa Barbara fishing family, he learned early on the value and essence of hard work. He applied those life lessons by becoming a teacher and in later years he started what became a very successful nursey business in Carpinteria.

The lesson I found in Bernard’s life journey was simple. “If the mountain won’t bow to the sea, the sea will rise up to the mountain.”
Rest in peace my dear friend. When we meet again, dinner is on me.
Your cousin and dearest friend, Lorraine.
