Bo Magnus Engmyr
Bo Magnus Engmyr, 90, of Sequim, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026.
Born in Skövde, Sweden, in 1936, Bo immigrated to the United States on December 3, 1953, arriving aboard the ocean liner Kungsholm on its maiden voyage. He settled in Chicago with relatives and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. He served for three years, stationed in Germany, where he proudly became a U.S. citizen while still in uniform.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Chicago and worked various jobs, with a particular fondness for his role as a butler and chauffeur. Disliking the harsh winters, he packed his belongings and drove across the country to California in search of a better life and more sunshine.
He quickly found work on the docks at J.W. Robinson’s in Los Angeles. Through hard work, dedication, and a strong work ethic, he built a remarkable 32-year career with the company, steadily rising through the ranks. It was in Los Angeles that he met the love of his life, Ingrid Persson, just three days after she arrived from Sweden. They married in Sweden in January 1966 and settled briefly in Hollywood, California.
In 1967, Bo helped open the J.W. Robinson’s store in Santa Barbara, California. In 1971 he and Ingrid relocated to Santa Barbara, where he assumed the role of Operations Manager, a position he held with pride until his retirement in 1993. It was in Santa Barbara that Bo and Ingrid raised their two sons: Eric and Jon. Following his retirement from Robinson’s he managed a storage and truck rental facility before fully retiring in 2003. He and Ingrid moved to Sequim, Washington, where they enjoyed their retirement years and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Bo was happiest outdoors, whether tending his yard, firing up the barbecue in the backyard, camping with family, or spending a day at the beach. He spent some of his happiest hours soaking up the Santa Barbara sunshine, hose in one hand and a cold beer in the other, always ready with a wave and a chat for neighbors walking by. Bo had a quick wit and a great sense of humor and never missed a chance to make the people around him laugh.
Bo is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ingrid; his son Eric (wife Jennifer); granddaughters Sara and Emma; his son Jon (wife Renee); and his sister, Christina Berlin, in Sweden.
He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, deep love for his family, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.
