Ken Ilenstine passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, predeceased by his loving parents, Jack and Joyce. He is survived by his three siblings and their partners: Robert and wife Sharon, Craig and spouse, and Karen Chackel and husband Roger, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born in France, where his father was stationed at the time, but shortly returned to the United States where he spent his entire life in Santa Barbara, California. Ken graduated from San Marcos High School and attended Santa Barbara City College.

He was a general contractor and was involved in building many custom homes. Known for his craftsmanship, artesian work, and attention to detail, Ken was never afraid of a building project and mentored many people who became successful in the trade.

Ken was also a man of many talents, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a lobster fisherman.

Affectionately nicknamed by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Buck,“ Ken will forever be celebrated for his humor and lightheartedness, as well as his love for film and animals.

He spent most of his free time building and enjoying the family’s second home, a cabin in Paradise. He was a gentle giant who is greatly missed by those who loved him dearly, especially for his boisterous laugh and genuine smile.

A Celebration of Life will be held September 12 at 1:00 in the afternoon at (Area B) Goleta Beach Park
