Lloyd Henning

Born March 29, 1929, on his aunt’s dairy farm in the Santa Ynez Valley, Lloyd grew up in Los Olivos — the middle child of five, the son of a painter, and a working kid from the age of eight. One week after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving honorably for more than six years during the Korean War. His service took him across the United States and overseas, and he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant at just 22 years old. He then settled in Santa Barbara, the city he proudly called the “vacation capital of the world”.

Through the Nisei bowling leagues, Lloyd met the love of his life, Nancy Kozaki. They married on May 5, 1963, and shared 45 wonderful years together until her passing in 2008.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Scott Henning; his grandchildren — Scott, Kelley, Zack, Bryce, and Trevor; and his great-granddaughter, Azalea Jade Fox. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and his siblings Angie, Jean, Raymond, and Marvin.

Lloyd was the very embodiment of a good man. He lived with quiet strength, unwavering love, endless patience, and a generous spirit that made everyone around him feel valued and accepted. The love and kindness he shared became a lasting gift—one that will continue to shape the lives of his family for generations to come. Those of us who were blessed to be loved by him will honor his memory by striving to live with the same compassion, integrity, and grace that he showed each day. Though we will miss his steady presence more than words can express, the love he gave so freely will remain in our hearts forever, and his legacy will live on in all whose lives he touched.
