Scott Stephen Sheldon

Scott Stephen Sheldon was born at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara and died in his sleep at home in Carpinteria.

Scott spent his entire life in the Santa Barbara area, including 40 years on Mountain Drive. After his home was destroyed in the Tea Fire, he spent the rest of his life mostly in Carpinteria.

After attending Santa Barbara Free School in the 1960s, Scott began a long career as a carpenter and local contractor. He built and remodeled hundreds of homes in the Santa Barbara area and worked with Jim Cushman as a concrete man for several years before retiring.

Known for his generosity with his time and always helping friends out when something needed fixing, Scott not only could build, invent and fix almost anything, he was a private pilot, glider pilot and sailor. Building kites, remote control airplanes, model ships and trains brought him joy too, as did camping and travel – he loved New Zealand like a second home. He also loved music and was an accomplished guitar player. One of his most treasured accomplishments was the 27 years he spent in A.A. with family and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his two sisters, Kimberly and Joanne, and his much-loved stepdad, Tom Sheldon; father, Hugh Williams, and mother, Charlotte Hayhurst.

He leaves behind his two children, Christopher (Marissa) and Benjamin; three grandchildren, Mason, Evie and Nolan; two brothers, Bruce and Leo; and three sisters, Judy, Martha and Nancy.

There will be a celebration of Scott’s life on Sept. 19, at Manning Park (Area 1) at noon. All who knew him are welcome to join in and bring a potluck dish (if you wish) and your favorite stories of Scotty to share.
