Wilford Lloyd “Bud” Baumes
Wilford Lloyd “Bud” Baumes passed away peacefully on the morning of June 28, 2026, at the age of 86. A lifelong creative spirit, Bud lived an extraordinary life defined by imagination, generosity, elegance, and an enduring appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
Born and raised in Amberley Village, Ohio, Bud was the son of the late Dr. Ogden Hayward “Bud” Baumes and Dorothy Hudson Baumes. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Ross Baumes and Dr. H. “Hudson” (Myra) Baumes.
He is lovingly remembered by his nephew, Lloyd “Ross” Baumes; his niece, Lee Ann Baumes; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Hannah Baumes, Leo Baumes, Jack Baumes, Morgan (Taylor) Wilson, and Blake Petzelt; and his great-great-nephew and niece, Crew and Romy Wilson.
After serving his country in the United States Navy, Bud completed his education at Denison University and later earned a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, laying the foundation for a lifetime of creativity and innovation.
Bud built a fascinating career in the entertainment industry as a screenwriter, producer, and creative developer. Among his many accomplishments, perhaps his most iconic were his roles as developer of the television series The Love Boat and producer of the original Wonder Woman television series, leaving a lasting mark on two of television’s most beloved classics.
After moving from Los Angeles to Montecito in the mid-1980s, Bud continued his passion for architecture and design by acquiring and restoring exceptional residential properties. His crowning achievement was the meticulous restoration and renovation of a historic Riven Rock estate, transforming it into one of Montecito’s most admired homes. His residences were featured in Santa Barbara Magazine and Architectural Digest, reflecting his extraordinary eye for design and timeless style.
Bud was an enthusiastic board member of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art for many years, serving on its Development Committee and playing a pivotal role in the Museum’s Photo Futures initiative. Through this work, he traveled the world to help acquire significant photographic works for the Museum’s permanent collection.
His generosity extended throughout the Santa Barbara community. A passionate supporter of the arts and music, Bud was a devoted benefactor of the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Music Academy of the West, the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, and numerous other cultural organizations.
Whether designing remarkable homes, supporting the arts, or opening his home to friends, Bud’s creativity was always matched by his warmth and generosity. His impeccable style, thoughtful nature, quick wit, and legendary cocktail parties created lasting memories for all who knew him. Over the decades he spent in California, he built a wide circle of cherished friendships before eventually returning to his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
More than his many accomplishments, Bud will be remembered for the way he made people feel—welcome, inspired, and appreciated. His creativity, generosity, wit, and love of gathering family and friends created memories that will be treasured for generations. His life was beautifully lived, and his legacy will endure in the countless lives he touched.
A private family gathering will be held at the family’s cherished home on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan. Private inurnment will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Evendale, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bud’s honor are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
