Lisa Loch Schwan
Lisa Loch Schwan passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2026, at her home in Santa Barbara.
Lisa was born on February 6, 1963, in Santa Barbara to Mary Morgan Vail and Alan Edward Boland. She lived in the Santa Barbara area her entire life and came from a long line of local ranching families. Her mother grew up raising cattle alongside Lisa’s grandfather, Edward Vail, on Rancho Jesús María, Jalama Ranch, and Santa Rosa Island.
Lisa was a natural beauty, both inside and out, with an infectious smile and a fun-loving, compassionate spirit that brightened every room she entered. Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her son, Jason, whom she loved with all her heart.
Lisa’s generosity knew no bounds. She welcomed everyone into her life with open arms, making friends and strangers alike feel as though they were already part of the family. Her home was always open, and she found great happiness in bringing people together. No one ever left her table hungry or her home without feeling loved, accepted, and cared for.
Much like Lisa herself, her cooking was delightfully unpredictable. She rarely made the same recipe twice, yet every meal was prepared with love and became a cherished memory for those fortunate enough to share it with her. It wasn’t just the food people remembered—it was the laughter, warmth, and love she served alongside every meal.
Lisa had a love for fashion, modeling, and art. She worked at several boutiques on Coast Village Road in Montecito, including Antoinette, East Beach, Butterfly, and Air Dreams. She later fulfilled her dream of owning her own businesses, opening Eye’s On You and later Saffron, both on Coast Village Road. She took tremendous pride in creating welcoming spaces where her creativity and love of people could shine.
An avid animal lover, Lisa was rarely without a beloved canine companion by her side. She also had a lifelong passion for photography, capturing special moments wherever she went. That passion was inspired in part by her great-uncle, Wynn Bullock, one of the most celebrated photographers of the twentieth century. While her son may have teased her about insisting on taking pictures at every occasion, he is deeply grateful to have those photographs today, preserving countless memories of a life well lived.
Lisa also came from a family of remarkable accomplishments. Her maternal great-grandmother, Georgia Bullock, made California history in 1922 as the first woman appointed Judge Pro Tem of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. At her first appearance on the bench, the bailiff made history as well by announcing, “Her Honor, the Judge. Hats off!” Her pioneering spirit became part of a family legacy that valued creativity, resilience, and making a lasting impact.
In recent years, one of Lisa’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She rarely missed the opportunity to cheer them on at their sporting events, celebrating every milestone with pride. She also loved decorating for the holidays with them, creating traditions and memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Lisa is survived by her son, Jason Schwan (Renee); her grandchildren, Ava and Austin; her sisters, Mara Boland and Diana Burt; her brother, Alan Boland; her former husband, James Schwan Jr.; her stepdaughter, Sierra Klucken-Bostick; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. She was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, David Bostick.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Manning Park, Area #9 (Lower Manning Park), in Santa Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lisa’s memory to CADA of Santa Barbara or a local animal shelter.
In honor of Lisa, may we all remember to live fully, love deeply, and laugh often with those we hold dear—because time with family is life’s greatest gift.
