Doris J. Batastini (Hoag)
Doris was called home by the Lord on August 1, 2026. She went peacefully at the age of 93, from her home in Goleta, CA. She was cherished by her family and will be deeply missed.
Doris was born April 16, 1933, in Lakeport, California to Hugh and Ruth Hoag. She spent the majority of her life in Santa Barbara, attending public school and graduating from Santa Barbara High School in 1951.
She met Albert Batastini through his sister who was a dear friend. Doris and Albert were married on November 8, 1952, and settled into family life on the West Side near the Batastini Family Home, raising three children, Edward, Pam and Joe. Doris also worked alongside Albert in the family business for many years prior to his passing.
Doris loved her family and never forgot a birthday or other special occasion, she made mountains of cookies for nieces and nephews, she spent time caring for aging parents and pets. Aunt Doris was a fixture at baby showers, wedding showers and young children’s birthday parties where her homemade potato salad was legendary.
Doris loved to be BUSY and her endless energy allowed her to enjoy many hours of weeding in the garden where she grew lovely flowers and fed the blue jays, attending SB Adult Education Sewing Class where she had many friends and created beautifully embroidered projects (holiday themed sweatshirts were her specialty).
Doris was a member of St. Raphael’s parish and donated her time cleaning the parish church building and providing floral arrangements for mass and other special events. She would travel to visit family in Alaska each year where she enjoyed the beautiful flora and fauna of the area around Kenai and even caught some Silver Salmon. She made many friends in Alaska with her homemade enchiladas and special crunchy chocolate chip cookies. In later years, Doris worked weekly with a group that created books for the visually impaired, she spent hours knitting warm beanies for the patients of SB Cancer Center and the NICU of Cottage Hospital. Many tiny babies wore her ultra-soft pink and blue beanies when they went home to their families.
Doris is survived by her children, Pam Finchum (Dave) and sons, Edward (Nicole) and Joe (Stefani). And many extended and beloved family members. As well as her recent care givers.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert, and brothers Erland, Gilbert and Wilfred Graveside services will be held on August 18 at 10:00am, Calvary Cemetery, 199 North Hope Ave., Santa Barbara
