Richard Swanson
Rich Swanson, a much loved friend to so many in Santa Barbara, a familiar face on the volleyball courts at East Beach for many decades, as well as a beloved son, brother, uncle and godfather passed away July 25th, 2026. Rich lived a full and meaningful life, loved his work, his friendships, and had a deep love for his community.
He will be remembered as a friend to everyone, a treasured colleague, someone who lived life fully, traveled extensively and for the deep connections he made throughout his life. His friendship, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Rich’s life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Cabrillo Pavilion, 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara.
Friends and loved ones are invited to gather for an afternoon of good food, share memories, stories and laughter as we celebrate Rich’s life, his accomplishments and the many friendships he cherished.
Attire is nicely casual with a beach vibe. Following the celebration, guests are invited to bring a beach chair or towel and gather at the East Beach volleyball courts to watch the sunset together at one of Rich’s favorite places.
Rich will forever be in our hearts, memories, the stories we continue to tell, and in the community he loved and was proud to call home.
