William Anderson “Andy” Stephenson, age 78, passed away on September 22, 2026. He was a man known for his building skills, artistic talents, and deep love for the outdoors.

Born on August 2, 1948, in Los Angeles, Andy was raised in Santa Barbara by his loving parents, William Hughes Stephenson and Phyllis Vera Gay Stephenson, alongside his siblings, Gaye, Lynne, and Jim. He cherished fond memories of his childhood: playing baseball in the backyard, listening to Dodgers games on the radio, learning to surf at local beaches, and golfing with his father and brother. After graduating from San Marcos High School in 1966, Andy attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study Architectural Engineering, later earning his B.A. in Art from UCSB.

Realizing that his creative skills and love for nature were best utilized in the open air, Andy earned his building contractor’s license and spent his career in the Lake Tahoe area. Skiing is what initially drew him to the region, where he became an accomplished skier. Truly a multi-talented individual, Andy had a natural knack for fixing anything. He possessed a lifelong passion for cars—not just driving them, but meticulously restoring them. He also loved golfing with family and friends, cultivating his beautiful garden, and dabbling in artistic pursuits like pottery and glassblowing.

Andy was deeply grateful for a life filled with a loving family, many exceptional friends, and the devoted love of his partner. He is survived by his partner of 27 years, Cindy Olsen; his sister, Lynne Lesh (Bob) of San Diego; his brother, Jim Stephenson (Cathy) of Santa Barbara; and his nephews and niece, Kevin, Shawn, Kenny, and Kimberley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gaye O’Callahan.

Andy will be profoundly missed and forever loved by all who knew him. A gathering to celebrate his life was held at the Tahoe City Golf Club on October 24th.
