It’s a Wonderful Life

Some kids have all the luck. Chloë Bee Ciccati, whose father, Ben Ciccati, designed the cover of The Indy’s Santa Barbara City College Promise story she’s holding, has been immersed in a family that surrounds her with stimulating projects, free borrowing privileges of the art materials on hand, inspiring brains aboil nearby from the talented scribbling going on, and lots of unfettered, seriously amusing quips and conversation.

Yuuuuuuge!

If nothing else, you’ve got to give political candidates some credit for consistently raising the profile of words we might otherwise take for granted, in this case “Yuuuuuge!” as field trippin’ Indy staffers said of the printing press they visited last week.

An election should be a deliberate and considered proposal, undertaken with serious and thoughtful intent.

As The Indy‘s production team was putting together this week’s cover story on the winning formula of Santa Barbara’s own minor leaguers the Foresters, John Zant broke in, delighted with the news of UCSB baseball’s unexpected berth in the College World Series.

Esprit de Corps

Our former intern Michael Stout (left) returned to Santa Barbara this past week when the Red Cross recognized not only his military service but also his courage in openly speaking about the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder.
