At the Board of Supervisors’ meeting Tuesday, supervisors Salud Carbajal, Joe Centeno, and Janet Wolf charged staff with searching the county’s budget for $1 million to provide health coverage to some of the county’s uninsured children. When a long-awaited, new and upgraded Veterans Affairs (VA) outpatient clinic opens in Santa Maria this summer, Santa Barbara’s own VA outpatient clinic on Calle Real will begin incrementally sending its specialty care services there, until only general and mental healthcare remain in a pared-down version of the 27-year-old health center. VA officials say the transition will take about two months.
Santa Maria Valley, long considered one of the premiere wine growing regions along California’s southern Central Coast for pinot noir, chardonnay, and cool-climate syrah, has formed its own vintners association. The association is following in the footsteps of associations founded in recent years in other county appellations, including the Santa Rita Hills Winegrowers Alliance and the Santa Ynez Valley Wine Trail.
