Italian Bakery Leaves Loreto, Turns to Mama

San Roque's Postal Workers Go Upscale While Patterson's Opt for Mama

As those who live in San Roque know, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed morning coffee.” That is, the postal workers used to congregate outside the Italian Bakery in Loreto Plaza, right next to their upper State digs, enjoying pastries and getting caffeinated for their rounds.

Alas, now they all might need to agitate for a raise, as their mornings have taken a decidedly upscale turn a few doors down at Gelson’s where they eat Jeannine’s while sipping Peet’s. The postal workers at Patterson are still in luck, however, as the ovens at the Italian Bakery at 5342 Hollister are still warm, even if the establishment is now called Mama’s. Guess ownership realized Mama’s sounds like a better purveyor of magnificent maple bars and those strawberry cream cheese Danishes- to-die-for – or at the least wake up for.
