The gradual containment of the Santa Barbara County backcountry’s Zaca Fire has prompted the staff at the Los Padres National Forest to significantly reduce the number of acres closed off to the public. As of Friday, July 27, approximately 98,000 acres of National Forest will be closed as opposed to the 614,000 acres that were previously off-limits.

The fire, which officials estimate to be approximately 80 percent contained as of Thursday afternoon, could be completely extinguished as early as August 3. For more information on the blaze, call the Zaca Fire Information Center at 961-5770.
