Gigantic Music; May 2007

Do you like clutter? Coloring out of the lines? Marching very much to the beat of its own drum, The Boggs make spattery music that hangs together in ways I’ve never heard before, with sideways rhythms, whacked-out instrumentation, ephemeral melodies, and chantinglots of chanting. They sound at times like a three-piece, and at other times like a full marching band. And with reference points like the Clash circa Sandinista! (the main “singer” even sounds a bit like Joe Strummer), Prince, early ’80s Talking Heads, and even Christmas carols here and there, The Boggs define what “postmodern” music is supposed to sound like.
