California Archaeology Month

For California Archeology Month, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (2559 Puesta Del Sol) hosts four free lectures led by experts on Chumash history. On Tuesday, October 16, Dr. John Johnson, Dr. Tom Stafford, and Amy Gusick will discuss the early colonization of North America. Following the lecture, Dustin McKenzie will lead a talk on human adaptation and environmental change.

UCSB Scientists Observe Galaxy 100 Times Lighter than Milky Way

Researchers at UC Santa Barbara continue to make groundbreaking discoveries, this time in the realm of astrophysics. Phil Marshall, a postdoctoral fellow at UCSB, and Tommaso Treu, assistant professor of physics, participated on an international team of scientists that conducted a study of a galaxy located halfway across the universe. The galaxy is the smallest and lightest known to exist at that distance from our own Milky Way galaxy.

The Clean House

Sarah Ruhl’s distinct voice is immediately recognizable in her award-winning play, The Clean House. While there are other writers who could perhaps engage audiences with a story about house cleaning, Ruhl explores this prosaic topic in a truly sublime way. In a style reminiscent of the Latin American writer Gabriel Garc-a M¡rquez, this production moves to tears through laughter, managing to resist the maudlin representation of death, love, and betrayal.

Raytheon Receives Air Force Contract

Raytheon announced that its Goleta-based Tactical Airborne Systems division was awarded an $11.9-million contract to manufacture 13 radar warning receivers for a U.S. Air Force base in Georgia.

Artist Robert Shetterly Honors America’s Real Defenders
