School was held in the chapel at the Santa Barbara Presidio (shown here in a drawing from 1855) through much of the 1850s.

The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation welcomed Santa Barbara Bank & Trust as the first corporate supporter of the Pearl Chase endowment and the newest addition to the Los Distinguidos a select circle of members who have committed $10,000 or more to help preserve Santa Barbara’s history and heritage for future generations. Among other things, the trust is responsible for reconstructing and preserving El Presidio de Santa Barbara and its designation as a California State Park. The endowment named after Pearl Chase, a founding member of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, provides a financial base for the trust’s preservation and restoration work. Santa Barbara Bank & Trust presented the check to Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation on July 10.
