POETRY IN MOTION

The City of Santa Barbara is now accepting applications for its next Poet Laureate. Eligible applicants must be published poets, involved in the city’s literary community, and capable of making appearances throughout their term. MAKE A SPLASH!

This year’s Summer Solstice Celebration committee will be accepting artwork for its annual poster/T-shirt design competition this Friday, January 30, at the Summer Solstice office (924 Anacapa St., Sre. B-1 F) from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The theme of this year’s parade is Splash!, and additional contest rules and guidelines can be found online by visiting solsticeparade.com.

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM

Acclaimed sociologist, professor, and author Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot will be giving a free lecture at Victoria Hall Theater (33 W. Victoria St.) this Monday, February 2. The talk is part of Lightfoot’s current tour in support of her book, The Third Chapter: Passion, Risk, and Adventure in the 25 Years After 50.
