With the Santa Barbara County Vintners’ Festival on Saturday, April 18, from 1-4 p.m. in Lompoc (details at sbcountywines.com/events/festival.html), it’s a fine time to consider what food to cook up with all that grape-y goodness. Luckily we can enjoy the recent release of Barbara Scott-Goodman’s The Vineyard Cookbook (Welcome Books), a tasty collection of more than 60 seasonal-driven recipes meant to match wines from 32 talented American winemakers. Area wineries Lafond, Rancho Sisquoc, Sanford, Talley, and Zaca Mesa all are featured, as well as the sumptuous photos of Central Coast resident Kirk Irwin his photo of California poppies brilliantly abloom screams Sta. Rita Hills spring. Speaking of spring, I’m looking forward to digging into a plate of linguine with fresh asparagus and peas, laved in Parmesan cream and spiked with lemon zest, just one of the many enticing, straightforward dishes. Scott-Goodman helpfully brackets her wine suggestions by price for each dish, too, so readers can use the book no matter how well the economy is doing.
