The Children’s Miracle Network telethon-which aired on KEYT from 8 p.m. on 5/30 to 4 p.m. on 5/31-raised an estimated $525,000 in funds that will go to caring for sick infants and children at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

With children of working parents outnumbering licensed childcare spaces three to one, a recent study on childcare challenges in the workplace conducted by First 5 Santa Barbara County showed many parents consider quitting their jobs and a large loss of revenue in companies because of absent workers who must care for their children.

The State Lands Commission on 6/1 rejected Gov. Schwarzenegger’s demand to open Santa Barbara’s coast to oil company PXP’s slant drilling proposal that would net the state $2 billion in oil revenues.

In order to thank the firefighters who have helped protect the county from its plague of wildfires, the Conference & Visitors Bureau has set up a program that offers these emergency workers discounts rates at hotels, restaurants, and other attractions throughout the county.
