I usually don’t pay much attention to what Bob Field has to say as I know from past experience it is usually not the truth [Letters, “Dan the Torpedo,” 6/3/10]. However, I have to set the record straight when he calls me a developer. Here is the truth. I have worked hard my whole life, like my father and grandfather before me, to preserve our beautiful Nojoqui Falls Ranch, which dates back to the 1800s. I have dedicated many years of my life to public service to give back to my community, improve the environment, and preserve family farms and ranches in our county. I have served 12 years on a school board, served on the Santa Barbara County Fish and Game Commission since 1980, served on the common-ground group to preserve the Gaviota Coast, served for four years on the county’s Agricultural Advisory Committee, the last year as chairman, and served on the County’s Ag Preserve Advisory Committee.
Do I support Dr. Dan [Secord] for supervisor? You bet, because in talking to him he also supports the goals mentioned above. In trying to work with Supervisor [Janet] Wolf for the last three years, she has not supported agriculture and has supporters like Bob Field who seem intent on destroying our family farms and ranches. By the way, Bob is proud in saying that he was past chair of the Santa Ynez Valley Community Plan Advisory Committee. What he doesn’t tell you is that when he couldn’t get his own way, he quit and never finished the job.—Bill Georgi
