And you thought they were kidding when they said it would be random.
For the 20 student filmmakers and scriptwriters selected to compete in this year’s SBIFF 10-10-10 competition, the wait to begin work finally ended as each of the 10 filmmakers wiggled a hand around in a wineglass full of slips of paper and withdrew a screenwriter’s name. For the next 10 days, each pair will rush to produce a 10-minute film to be shown and judged at the end of the festival. While the scriptwriters have been working with a so-called “industry professional” on their scripts for the last several months, they weren’t matched with their filmmaker until today — and the clock’s already ticking.
The filmmaker-screenwriter partnerships are as follows:
HIGH SCHOOL
Marz Miller (Santa Barbara High School) & Cameron Platt (Laguna Blanca)
Ally Shiras (San Marcos High School) & Aija Mayrock (Laguna Blanca)
Tate Larrick (Santa Barbara High School) & Wyatt Krutsch (Dunn High School)

Patrick Alcerro (Anacapa School) & Leanne Sturman (San Marcos High School)
