1940 Census Release

NARA Makes 72-Year-Old Census

Wed Jan 25, 2012 | 06:00am

For folks interested in tracing their roots, it will get easier this April when the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) will make the 1940 census available for public viewing online. In preparation for its release, the S.B. Genealogical Society’s January meeting will feature speaker Joel Weintraub, an emeritus biology professor at California State University, Fullerton. Weintraub, who volunteered with NARA for nine years, will discuss “What’s in the 1940 Census?” and “Census Search Tools for Finding Families.” The event is open to all comers and takes place Saturday, January 28, 9:30 a.m.-noon, at the First Presbyterian Church (21 E. Constance Ave., at State St.). For more information on genealogical events, visit sbgen.org.
