Old Town Goleta Park Gets Nearly $1 Million

City Officials Overjoyed at State's Decision to Fully Fund Request

More than 400 jurisdictions from across California applied for park funding this year, but only 64 were awarded, including nearly $910,000 to the City of Goleta for the development of a new neighborhood park in Old Town near the corner of Hollister and Kellogg avenues.

Goleta officials were overjoyed to get their full request, especially with the recent demise of the state’s Redevelopment Agency program, which would have helped fund the new park. What that four-acre park will look like will be the subject of a tour this Saturday, April 7, starting at the corner of Kellogg and Hollister at 9 a.m., followed at 10 a.m. by a workshop at the Goleta Valley Community Center.

Aside from some playing fields and restrooms, the city’s spokesperson Valerie Kushnerov explained that the property is “a blank canvas waiting for the community to put down its stamp.”
