A Santa Barbara City College student who fell last month from an Isla Vista balcony onto the beach 40 feet below was left paralyzed and continues to recover from other serious injuries. Tanner Gage, 20, from Carlsbad suffered broken ribs, a lacerated liver, and a severed spinal cord in the fall on October 9 along Del Playa Drive. A little more than 24 hours later, another person fell from the nearby cliffs; his condition is unknown. ABC 10 News in Carlsbad spoke to Gage’s family on Tuesday about adjusting to life after the accident. Gage’s family has also set up a GoFundMe account that’s so far raised $32,000 that they say will help pay for “home modifications to suit his needs (shower, bathroom, bed, ramp etc.), an upgraded wheelchair, a new car with modifications allowing him to drive again, and a college fund that will allow him to pursue his degree in business.”
