The Canyon Fire on south Vandenberg Air Force Base doubled in size overnight, growing to more than 4,500 acres, with zero-percent containment, according to Vandenberg officials. The brushfire is moving toward the southern base boundary at the Sudden Ranch area at a slow to moderate pace as base crews fight alongside U.S. Forest Service, CalFire, and Santa Barbara County personnel. More than 400 evacuation calls went out on Sunday, and evacuation warnings remain in place for the San Miguelito Canyon area.

A countywide Air Quality Watch was issued by the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, encouraging everyone — especially children, older adults, and people with heart or lung conditions — to limit time outdoors and avoid outdoor exercise when high concentrations of smoke and falling ash are present.
