More than 40,000 UC workers — including hundreds of custodians, dining hall staff, and patient care workers at UC Santa Barbara — say they’re ready to strike “until we win,” raising the prospect of campus-wide disruptions.
To date, the number of local employees hired has been less than it was before the supervisors voted to require union companies on large public works projects.
The new four-year agreements lock in raises, immigration protections, and job-security provisions and come after statewide practice pickets at all 10 UC campuses, including UC Santa Barbara.
