Happy Thanksgiving Week! I’m relishing the beauty that this week’s scattering of showers has brought to the area. I’m grateful for sunrises, sunsets, and the dramatic cloudscapes we’ve seen in between. One of my favorite places to enjoy the changing colors of the sky is our harbor, whether I’m strolling along the breakwater or West Beach or any number of scenic spots. If you’ve read my Make Myself at Home article in this week’s real estate section, you’ll know that I had the opportunity for a brand new view of my favorite harbor when I visited the Summer Solstice — Deborah and Kelsey Samuel’s floating home.

That’s where I met my newest favorite feline: Black Cat. The morning I visited was the day that Black Cat decided to take his very first foray off the boat. Deb & Kelsey were confident that he’d come right back aboard, and sure enough, he took one lap around the dock and then hopped right back aboard, as shown here mid-jump. I’ll be back to visit the Summer Solstice … and Black Cat!

If living on a boat isn’t quite your style, how about this landlocked “boat house” on stilts? This 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 544 square foot home is for sale in Horseshoe Beach, Florida. I stumbled across it on Zillow Gone Wild, which is a pretty fun follow on instagram. The boat house is offered for sail from Compass where they describe it as “real salt life living” for $580,000.

Continuing our list of ways you can help this Thanksgiving, here’s a concrete way to make a big difference. The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission is accepting donations of turkeys for their annual Thanksgiving Feast for members of our community who are suffering. I’m told that the dinner will include turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, pie, and all the trimmings. Approximately 300 turkeys are needed, and can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at 535 East Yanonali Street. Monetary donations are always appreciated as well to provide meals, shelter, and recovery.

Wishing you a warm and wonderful weekend of holiday prep, home appreciation, and more. However you spend it, bring this week’s Indy along for all the news, events, and real estate info to keep you in the know!
