In recognition and anticipation of World Seabird Day, Chaucer’s Books and the Santa Barbara Audubon Society have teamed up to celebrate birds and our local birding community.
On Thursday, July 2, Chaucer’s Books will donate 10% of all in-store purchases made between 4 pm and 8 pm – books, cards, guides, posters, shirts, etc. – to support the ongoing educational and habitat protection efforts of the Santa Barbara Audubon
Society.
World Seabird Day is celebrated annually to raise international awareness about seabird conservation and the threats these birds face. The Santa Barbara coast and the Channel Islands are a critical habitat, hosting over 95% of all breeding seabirds in Southern California.
The Santa Barbara Audubon Society protects area birdlife and habitat and actively connects people with birds through education, conservation and science. Educational programs include twice monthly bird walks, monthly public lectures, field trips, community events such as the Winter Bird Count for Kids, the Christmas Bird Count, and the Breeding Bird Study.
Other educational programs include EYES IN THE SKY, which features live rehabilitated birds of prey at the Audubon Aviary on the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History campus and MEET YOUR WILD NEIGHBOR, a science and conservation education program at 16 kindergarten through third grade classrooms educating students about our local ecosystem and introducing them to live raptors.
For more information, please call the Santa Barbara Audubon Society at 805-964-1468.
