Overeaters Anonymous is dedicated to helping compulsive eaters recover from a deadly disease of mind and body. It is completely free. In OA we recognize that we have an addiction and that it can be treated using the 12 Steps—the same 12 steps used by alcoholics—to recover from their disease. Just like alcoholics cannot consume any alcohol at all, not even an occasional beer, those of us who are real compulsive eaters—either overeating, restricting, over-exercising or purging food that we have consumed, must identify and then completely stay away from our trigger foods and food behaviors. Like alcoholics, compulsive overeaters nevertheless blindly go for these ingredients or excess food in general when we are feeling, restless, irritable or discontented, or even when we are happy. Basic human emotions send us to the food. T
Join us in a Step 3 workshop where a recovered fellow will share her experience, strength and hope and show us how we too can recover.

The solution is a spiritual one, but many OA’ers and AA’ers start off agnostics or Atheists and still find a higher power that can give them the power to overcome this killing disease and recover. The Steps unblock us from our Higher Power and allow this HP to direct our lives. Our lives move from being self-centered to other centered. We look for how we can be helpful to others and get outside of ourselves. In this process we begin to find a way of living that really works.
If you are a compulsive eater and are not familiar with OA, we hope you will join us at one of our next meetings. We have meetings in Santa Barbara on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in Santa Barbara and Goleta. For our meeting schedule go to— oaciig.wordpress.com
