The unveiling of the World War I Monument marks the successful end to a three-year project by the Lompoc Museum and Rancho Purisima chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to repair and enhance the 1924 World War Monument in downtown Lompoc. The monument was first erected by the Civic Club, a very active group of Lompoc women. The plaza, repaired capstone, commemorative plaques, benches, and planters were in place in time for the re-dedication of the monument on November 11, 2018, the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I. The remaining elements of a life-sized bronze eagle and bronze bas relief plaque of a doughboy soldier will complete the project in time for the unveiling on September 7 at 11 am.
