ASAP Cat Shelter volunteer Lisa Krause took it upon herself to organize the Tea Fire cat rescue operation. Four adults and one kitten remain unclaimed at the shelter associated with the county’s Animal Services department. Krause said people have already expressed interest in adopting them. Of the 78 cats originally reported as missing, about 30 remain listed as “lost,” though some cat owners may not have followed up with the shelter to let volunteers know they found their pets. Notably, the two cats belonging to fire victims Carla and Lance Hoffman have not been located.
As for dogs, Krause said Tea Fire evacuees were better able to find dogs and get them into vehicles to escape the fire. One exception is Sally Kinnear. She has been spotted around the Montecito-Santa Barbara area. Contact information for Sally’s family: (805) 455-0944.
