Hollywood’s favorite bad boy Danny Trejo spoke to a packed house at Campbell Hall during last week’s UCSB Arts & Lectures and Department of Chicana/Chicano Studies event, where he opened up about his troubled past, a life of crime and drug addiction, and redemption through helping others.

“Everything good that has happened to me has come as a direct result of helping someone else,” Trejo said, before diving into intimate — and often hilarious — anecdotes recounting his time growing up in East L.A., overcoming addiction, and traversing the world filming hundreds of movie and television roles over the past few decades.

Trejo stayed for a long Q&A session, answering dozens of questions about his life, career, and recent book, Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood.
