Every year at this time, hundreds of singers from all over the country audition for the few coveted spots at the Music Academy of the West’s Summer Festival. Some are seasoned returnees, some are anxious newbies, but they all must earn it. And this time, they are essentially auditioning for roles in the festival’s opera production next summer, Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
