Flying Lotus at UCSB's Welcome Back Concert
Levi Michaels

Flying Lotus may be hesitant to call himself a deejay, but his performance at UCSB’s Storke Plaza last Saturday would suggest otherwise. With a little help from bassist and recording partner Thundercat, FlyLo commanded a crowd of several thousand new and returning students for the Welcome Back Concert, hosted by UCSB’s Associated Students Program Board. His set struck an interesting balance between heavier rap anthems and spacey beats from his latest album, Until the Quiet Comes, supplemented by low-end interludes from Thundercat. Not ones to leave a crowd unsatisfied, the duo stuck around to give thanks to the students long after their time expired. They will begin a tour of the East Coast and Canada this week in support of the new album, which hits stores on Tuesday, October 2.
