On this week’s Poodle Radio, Colin Marshall is joined first by Sheri Horiszny, Director of Animal Programs at the Santa Barbara Zoo. She’s got plenty to say about which Halloween candies are made with sustainable means of palm oil production, which aren’t, and why it matters — especially to the tigers and elephants whose habitats unsustainable palm oil production puts in danger. Then, marriage and family therapist Jennifer Freed comes in to talk about her new book Lessons from Stanley the Cat: Nine Lives of Everyday Wisdom. Filled with illustrations by Swedish artist Tone Gellerstedt, the book draws many insights into human psychology from the life and behavior of Stanley, Freed’s cat of 19 years.

This program’s music comes from White Denim, Breathe Owl Breathe, and more. As always, it’s organized by pop culture editor Aly Comingore. You can tune into Poodle Radio live every Tuesday morning from 8-9 a.m. on KCSB, 91.9 FM in Santa Barbara or on KCSB’s webcast at KCSB.org.
